The cover of this notebook features a drawing made in 1949 for Buchholz Gallery/Curt Valentin, New York. The endpaper illustrations come from an extraordinary double-sided drawing that Calder made from memory as a lead-up to his 1943 retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art, New York, tracing his evolution as an abstract artist.
